Cape Town - Day 2

P* and I woke up quite early but we took forever to get ready…we faffed around doing God knows what? Can’t really remember…Oh, I remember, we watched Beyonce’s 26-song DVD “Live at Roseland” and swapped stories about some of our respective friends recent engagements – love it. However, all this chitter-chatter found us speeding down Geneva Drive trying to make it to either The Kove or Paranga before 12pm!

Unfortunately, we only got there at about 12:05pm and they point blank REFUSED so serve us breakfast, none of the ‘let’s go check with the chef story” just a direct “no, we’ve started serving lunch”. Tjo! They told us to go to Café Sophia or Sofia *don’t know* down the road…Our first thought was: is it the sister establishment to the Sophia’s in Rosebank? If so, then we’ll pass - we can’t have the same breakfast in Johannesburg AND in Cape Town bleh – too boring. After a minute of trying to decide where to go next, we power walked down the road to old faithful Café Capri, with our eyes crossed, tongues crossed and toes crossed. Lucky for us, they put our order through even though they had started serving lunch. Love these people :-)

We sat outside and watched all the weird and wonderful people walk up and down the road. 50 year olds *exaggeration* with 20 year old looking thighs in shorts and 50 year olds* not exaggerating* with 70 year old looking thighs in miniscule skirts. A girl with the most beautiful weave wearing leopard print jazz pants, a black tee, suede wedge shoes (closed) *yes, SUEDE and CLOSED* and a large Louis Vuitton tote in the scorching heat. I swear it was 32 degrees out…re_ally girrrl? Didn’t spot any hot dudes.

Finished our breakfast but it was so hot I had to stop over at the Camps Bay Vida E Caffe for a refreshing Mango Frio (blended ice + mango)…aaaah*content sigh*. We’d probably walked 5 metres and we were already feeling parched, sigh. By the time we got to the car P* looked like she was about to faint “Delirious I’m feeling really dizzy and nauseous”. I just thought she was pregnant Lol :-) Shame, poor P* she got better on the way to Steenberg though…lots of water and the promise of good wine.

On the way to Steenberg we listened to:
Jigga
Beyonce
  1. Girls, Who Run the World
  2. Put My love On Top
  3. Why Don’t You Love Me
Tuks Senganga
Cars whooshing past us *we did not want to miss our Exit, M42*.

What we drank:
We chose the flagship tasting option:
R50 per person (refunded with any purchase of Ultra Premium or Icon Wine).
Up to 6 Wines from Wine List (Ultra Premium Wines).
Spit or Swallow?
1682 Chardonnay MCC – N_IICE, a party ain’t a party without some of this golden fizz.
Sauvignon Blanc Reserve 2010 – SPIT. Didn’t like this wine at all!
Catharina 2009: I think we had the red…I really can’t remember but I do remember Catharina Ustings Ras’s story… Definitely mine and P*’s kind gal - bold and daring.
The Semillon 2010: this white wine made me feel all warm and syrupy inside. Well made liquid peachy gold. It was beyond sublime. For the 15 mins it took to sip this wine; all was good with the world. SWALLOW!
The icon white blend – Magna Carta 2009: is a blend made up of 60% Sauvignon Blanc from the 21-year old reserve block, and 40% barrel-fermented Semillon. Great, but the Semillon does it for me.
P* also had the Steenberg Rosé.

What we ate:
We ordered off their famous Tapas menu.
SOLOMILLO A LA TRINCHADO – Chalmar beef fillet, served in Bistro Sixteen82’s secret red wine and chilli sauce.
PAPAS CON ROMERO – new season Nicola potatoes, sautéed with fragrant rosemary, garlic and thyme.
GAMBAS PIL PIL – shelled tiger prawns smothered in lip-smacking garlic and chilli oil.
HÍGADOS DE POLLO PICANTE – Chicken livers in a spicy chilli sauce. Apparently the Piri Piri sauce has been a WIP (work in progress) for some time, and is finally complete.
PAN DE LA PLACA – freshly baked, assorted breads. We got just one kind, but damn it was good, it reminded me of home; home baked with love kinda bread.

All this made me want to snog the Chef in thanks * a proper snog*.
We have to come back with the rest of the girls!

xoxo
